Welcome

The Irish Horse Board is a co-operative society with over 15,000 members and a board of 13 directors. Of the 13 directors, 10 represent five electoral regions and 3 are appointed by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

The objectives of the Irish Horse Board are to:

  • Maintain the Irish Horse Register, which incorporates the Irish Sport Horse Studbook and the Irish Draught Horse Studbook
  • Promote and Market the Achievements of Irish Sport Horses nationally and internationally
  • Operate Schemes to Improve the Quality of Irish Sport Horses
  • Promote Equestrian Tourism & Equestrian Education


The breeding objective of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook is to produce a correct, sound, athletic sport horse with good basic paces making it very pleasant to ride and with a good temperament, which can be used as a pleasure or performance horse, capable of competing in showjumping, eventing and dressage at both national and international level.


International Results

That’s Life (ISH) scores a hat-trick of wins in La Coruna

Michel Hecart (Fra) and his Irish Sport Horse, That’s Life, scored a hat-trick of wins at the CSI4* in La Coruna. At the same show, Marion Hughes (Irl) and Heritage Transmission (ISH) finished in tenth place in the €100,000 Grand Prix.
